KernWi-Fi: Australians Must Check Their Modems Ahead of NBN Speed

Adelaide, SA – From 15 September 2025, NBN Co will roll out major speed upgrades across its network, including higher bandwidth on FTTP and HFC plans and the introduction of multi-gigabit speed tiers up to 2Gbps.
While these upgrades promise faster internet for homes and businesses, many existing modems and routers will not support the new speeds. Without compatible hardware, customers risk missing out on the full benefits of these enhancements.

Key changes include:
• FTTP and HFC speed boosts (e.g., 100/20 Mbps plans moving to 500/50 Mbps).
• New multi-gigabit plans: up to 2000/500 Mbps for FTTP.
• Next-gen FTTP Network Termination Devices (NTDs) for fibre upgrades.
Phil Kern, Director of KernWi-Fi Pty Ltd, said:
“This is a game-changer for Australian connectivity, but customers need to be aware that their old hardware may not keep up. We’ve tested and identified the right modem/router solutions to ensure users can fully experience these new speeds.”
KernWi-Fi has published a compatibility guide and offers a range of Mikrotik modem/routers tailored for each speed tier, from entry-level to multi-gigabit performance. Business customers can also access backup and restore solutions hosted in KernWi-Fi’s secure data centre.
